There’s something to be said about the people that you meet and it’s like you’ve known them for your whole life. It means something when you can go weeks without talking and it’s like no time has gone by at all. Or when you plan the future together. Plan vacations, and weddings. Talk about children and how they’ll be called ’auntie’. Or the most important thing – being able to talk about anything.
Dealing with things like bad days, work problems, mental health, etc. can be rough. Having someone to listen, someone who understands, makes those things a whole lot easier.
And that’s what todays poem is about. A message to my friends. To those who are there for me, care for me when they don’t have to. And I am grateful for each and every one of them.
Thank you for all that you’ve done and continue to do.
A Note to My Friends
I cannot regret
the things that I have done
or the people have lost
when they have led me to all of you
through trial and error
I have surrounded myself with people
who have never once thought of me
as ’too much’
and take me as I am
for all my oddities and fears
even on the days when I feel off
or when I am nothing but
a big ole ball of anxiety and tears
they hold me up and remind me
of the strength that i carry,
that I am more than the chaos of my mind.
they take me for all that I am
and encourage me to be who I dream
they are my support
I would be lost
everything is possible
